Applicants are strongly encouraged to treat this exam seriously, as itÌýis weighed heavily in the application process. To assist in preparing for the exam, study guides are available through ATI.
All ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ Associate Degree Nursing Program applicants are required to take the Assessment Technologies Institute's Test of Essential Academic Skills (ATI TEAS) as part of the admission criteria.ÌýThe ATI TEASÌýtaken within 12 months of application will be accepted.ÌýÌý
The ATI TEASÌýis part of a statewide initiative to increase the rate of success in California nursing programs.Ìý Screening students' academic skills and requiring remediation of weaknesses before beginning nursing classes promotesÌýthe likelihood of success in the rigorous academic challenge of nursing school.Ìý
¾«¶«Ó°Òµ offers the ATI TEASÌýexam on an invitation-only basisÌýto qualifiedÌýNursing Program applicants on each semester. The ATI TEASÌýmust be taken by noon of the Nursing Program'sÌýfinal testing date followingÌýsubmission of the application.ÌýThe dates that the ATIÌýTEASÌýexam will be given at ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ are listed on the Application Process page under "SaveÌýthe Dates". If these dates are not compatible with your schedule, or you are not invited to take it at ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ, you may take the ATIÌýTEAS elsewhere beforeÌýthe final testing date, and pay ATI toÌýhave the results electronically forwarded to ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ.ÌýTest results from within 12 months prior to application are also acceptable and must be submitted electronically, via ATIÌýby the end of the application period.ÌýIf the ATI TEAS exam has been taken more than once in any 12 month period, only the first exam results within that period will be accepted. Please be aware that the results report for the ATIÌýTEAS indicates how many times the exam has been taken and how many days have passed since the prior attempt. No exceptions to this policy will be made.
The Chancellor of the California Community Colleges recommends a minimum "Adjusted Individual Total Score" of 62% on theÌýATI TEAS.ÌýScoring 62% or aboveÌýindicates thatÌýyour academic skills are at a level predicted toÌýhelp you succeed in the nursing program.ÌýÌýAt ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ, those scoring below 62% are required to complete specific remediation to improve their likelihoodÌýto succeed in the nursing program. ItÌýis very important to complete the remediation in a timely manner.ÌýÌýDeferral of admission is not allowed for incomplete remediation.Ìý¾«¶«Ó°Òµ Associate Degree Nursing Program also reviews the sub-scores of all applicants' ATI TEASÌýresults as part of the application process.Ìý

Taking the ATI TEAS
The ATI TEASÌýtest is offered by the ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ NursingÌýDepartment as a courtesy to a limited number of qualifiedÌýapplicants to the program. An application must be submitted to the ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ Nursing Program in order to be potentially invitedÌýto test here.
Students that require special testing accommodations related to diagnosed disabilities will have their testing arranged with ACCESS.Ìý ACCESS is the program that assures all ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ classes, activities and facilities are accessible to all qualified students.Ìý For information on ACCESS, call (805) 378-1461 or go to the ACCESS page on the ¾«¶«Ó°ÒµÌýwebsite, which can be found under the Services for Students tab.
Sending ATI TEASÌýresults from other testing sites
If a student takes or has taken the ATIÌýTEASÌýat a different location, it is the student's responsibility to send his or her results through ATI to ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ. ATI charges a fee for thisÌýservice, which is the student's responsibility to pay. ATI TEASÌýexam scores will be accepted by ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ so long as the exam was taken within the past twelveÌýmonths.Ìý
If you:
- Took the ATI TEAS within twelve months prior to the application deadline, send your results through ATI by the application deadline. Printed results will not be accepted in any case.
If you:
- Take the ATI TEAS at a location other than ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ after the application deadline but prior to the final ATI TEAS testing date at ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ, send your results through ATI by 12:00 noon on the final ATI TEAS testing date at ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ. Printed results will not be accepted in any case.Ìý
Frequently Asked Questions about the ATI TEASÌýtest
How will I be taking the test and what do I need to bring?
This is aÌýcomputerized exam. The test is proctored and is heldÌýat ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ. No calculators are allowed. Scratch paper will be provided, and will be collected at the end of the test. You need to bring your driver's license, passport,Ìýor state identification card, andÌýa pen or pencil.Ìý
Those with a diagnosed disability that have a prescribed testing accommodation will be taking the ATI TEASÌýin ACCESS.
How do I reserve a date to take the ATI TEASÌýat ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ?
The ATI TEASÌýexam will be offered only to a limited number of qualified applicants to the Nursing Program. A qualified applicant will meet all admission criteria and have an application packet that is complete. Once qualification is determined, those applicants will be randomly invited to take the ATI TEASÌýexam on one ofÌýtwoÌýtest dates. See the "SaveÌýthe Dates" section on the Application Process page for more information and test dates for the upcoming application period. If an applicant has not been invited to theÌýTEAS at ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ by the first testing date of the application period, they must test elsewhere and pay ATI to send their results electronically to ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ byÌý12:00 noon of the last ¾«¶«Ó°ÒµÌýtesting date of the application period. Ìý
What can I do to prepare for taking the ATI TEAS?
The company that provides the exam (ATI) has a study manual titled ATI TEAS Study Manual 2022-2023 and online practice exam that you may purchase if you wish.ÌýMake sure to purchase the ATI TEASÌýversion.ÌýPlease refer to the company website for further information.ÌýThe ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ Bookstore does not sell the study manual.
Is the test really four hours long?
The ATI TEASÌýisÌýslightly less thanÌýfourÌýhoursÌýwith four timed sections.Ìý Extra time is added to the total testing period forÌýshort breaks in between sections.Ìý You must take the entire test during the testing period.Ìý If you finishÌýearly you may leave before the time has ended.
When will I get my results?
Results will be available the same dateÌýasÌýtheÌýtesting date.ÌýYou will be able to access the test results from the ATI website under "My Results".ÌýThe ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ Health Sciences Department hasÌýaccess to your results if you test at ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ.ÌýÌýIf you are applying to other colleges, you will need to pay ATI to send your results toÌýthem through the ATI website.
