Each course offered by the Ventura County Community College District and its colleges is open to enrollment and participation by any person:

• who has been admitted to the college and
• who meets the prerequisites to the class or program, unless specifically exempted by statute.
  • Prerequisites are listed in the online��Schedule of Classes��and the��College Catalog.
  • Information on requesting clearance for prerequisites can be found��here.

All prerequisite clearance requests are submitted to��mcprereq@vcccd.edu��for approval and processing��by Counseling:����

All prerequisites are enforced at the time of registration.�� All prerequisites are published to the course descriptions in the college catalog and in the class schedule.�� Allow 24-48 business hours for review and approval processing.�� Confirmation that your prerequisite has been cleared or if you need to follow additional instructions will be sent to the student @my.vcccd.edu account.��

Students may have the option of placing themselves on a waitlist for closed classes. If a seat opens up, waitlisted students will automatically be registered in the class in order of their priority on the waitlist. Students will be notified through MyVCCCD email when they are moved into a course off the waitlist and prompted to pay for the course to finalize registration.

General Information

A waitlist allows the student to wait for an open seat in a full class. Being on a waitlist does not guarantee enrollment in the class. If an enrolled student drops, the open seat may be filled by the next student on the waitlist in priority order. Payment within 24 hours is required to complete enrollment in the class.

If a seat does not open up, the student may request an add code from the instructor before the last day to add deadline for the specific CRN listed in the online��Schedule of Classes. If the instructor agrees to add the student and gives the student an add code, students must utilize the add code in their����to register in the course. Payment for the course must be made to finalize registration.

Students are not officially enrolled until their name appears on the current faculty class roster. Canvas is not the official class roster.����

The waitlist process functions different for semester length classes versus short term classes. Please consult the start and end dates of your course carefully to determine which process applies.��

Semester Length Classes

The waitlist process extends through the end of the first week of the semester and applies to semester length classes only. That means students can still add their names onto waitlists for the first (1st) week of the semester and add authorization numbers will not be needed until the beginning of the second (2nd) week of the semester.��

As students drop classes and adjust their schedules during the first week and as you drop no-show enrolled students, their movement out of a class will open up a seat and the first waitlisted student will automatically be enrolled. This will then allow all other students on the waitlist to move up a position and create space for a new student to add their name to the waitlist.

Short Term Classes��

Waitlists for short term classes close the day before the class begins.��

Canvas Access

Students that are waitlisted will have access to Canvas. When a student is waitlisted, they will show up on your roster as waitlisted.��

They will only have access to Canvas as a waitlisted student for up to 14 days for semester length classes. Students waitlisted in short term classes will have access to Canvas as a waitlisted student for up to 3 days.��

This means if the student is not officially registered after the time allotted was a waitlist student, they will be automatically dropped from the waitlist and lose access to Canvas.��

Please be advised the list of students in Canvas is not the official class roster. Waitlisted students will show up on the Canvas list, but this does not mean they are officially registered in the course.��

Students that are waitlisted in your class will show up in Canvas as waitlisted.��

2. Click on "+AddCourse" under Build Schedule in Registration Planner:

• After you add your course click on "Back To Generate Schedules" and then select "Generate Schedules":��

3. If any of the courses are full, it will prompt you select the course to waitlist.

• Click on "OK" after you make your selection:

  

4.��Click on “Continue” to confirm you want to register for the class:��

• You will be prompted with a message if you are successfully waitlisted for the class:

Adding a Course with an Add Code in Registration Planner

1. Go to the MyVCCCD student portal and drop the waitlisted class in Registration Planner.

• Click on Current Schedule and select “Edit or Drop Classes”

• On the Registration Status of the class, select “Drop Before Class Begins” and Save.

NOTE: Start on step 2 if student is not waitlisted in the class.

2. Click on "+AddCourse" under Build Schedule in Registration Planner:

• Select “By Section (CRN)”, enter the CRN of the class and click on “Add Course”

• Click on "Back To Generate Schedules" and then select "Generate Schedules":

Short Term Classes

General Information

Add authorization codes are faculty permissions for a student to enroll in a class. They will not work if a student has time conflicts, is attempting to exceed their maximum number of units, has taken the class the maximum number of times allowed, or has not met the enforced prerequisites.

Add authorization codes are created the first Friday of the semester. Five (5) codes are created for each scheduled CRN and posted to the official roster. The codes are unique to each CRN, non transferrable, and can only be used once. The add authorization codes are valid up until the day before census.��

Add authorization codes, if given, must be given to students in order of their priority on the waitlist. If you have no waitlist or if you have codes left after accommodating all waitlisted students, you are free to give the remaining codes to any student who requests one.��

Students are not required to be on the waitlist to add a course with an add authorization code, but priority must be given to those students on the waitlist.��

Requests for additional add authorization codes must be submitted through the division dean.

Student Registration and Payment

Enrollment fees are due right away when students register for a course with an add authorization code.��Payment plan options��are available.

If students are waitlisted in a class and are now registering with an add authorization code, they must��first drop the waitlisted course and re-add the same class. They will be prompted to enter the code. If students neglect to drop the class first, they will receive an error message saying they are trying to enroll in a duplicate course.��

Print a copy of your Student Schedule/Bill to verify your registration in your��. Your Schedule/Bill provides the names of your instructors, days, times and locations of class meetings, and the deadline dates that apply to each class.

Fees are due at the time of registration and must be paid promptly to finalize your registration and prevent holds being placed on your records and future registration privileges.

If you accidentally drop your classes you need to work with your instructor to get back into the course.

First, check the online��Schedule of Classes��or your Student Schedule/Bill to determine the Census date for the class.

• If it is��before��the census date, you must ask your instructor for an add code to get back into your class.
  • If you instructor is willing to give you an add code, you will follow the steps in the How Do I Use an Add Code section to register into the course.
• If it is��after��the census date, you must ask your instructor to complete a Reinstatement Request.
  • If your Instructor authorizes you to take their class, they will complete this form in their faculty portal.
