Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF)ÌýEmergency Grants

The federal HEERFÌýAct includes funds for students to help with immediate needs related to the ongoing COVID-19 health crisis.Ìý

¾«¶«Ó°Òµ has been allocated over $33,897,149Ìýin FundingÌýand has certified with the U.S. Department of Education that $14,424,801*Ìýwill go directly to students. An additional $1,971,294 was allocated to ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ as a developing Hispanic Serving Institution (DHSI) for additional student support expenses. ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ will also contribute a portion of the institutional and minority serving allocations towards direct student aid.

When enrolling at ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ, we encourage all students to fill out the FAFSA, CADAA, CCPG and HEERF GrantÌýrequest.ÌýStudents needed to be enrolled with a minimum of 6 units, and those in need qualified first for $1000.Ìý

Plan for DistributionÌý

  • 15% of funds* will be distributed to students enrolledÌýSummer 2020Ìý
  • 85% of funds* will be distributed to eligible students enrolled half timeÌýor moreÌýFall 2020,ÌýSpring 2021, & Summer 2021.Ìý
  • Fall 2021 and Spring 2022 students with exceptionally high need (Pell Grant recipients and others with exceptionally high need) will receive priority.
  • You wereÌýenrolled in at least 6 units. Those in need will qualifiedÌýfirst.ÌýÌýStudents who hadÌýthe greatest financial need wereÌýconsidered for emergency grant funds first.Ìý

HEERF Act Emergency Grants were intended to assist students with expenses related to the disruption of campus operations due to coronavirus (including eligible expenses under a student’s cost of attendance, such as food, housing, course materials, technology, health care, and child care).Ìý

How much is the HEERFÌýEmergency Grant?
AtÌý¾«¶«Ó°Òµ, the Emergency Grants wereÌý$1000Ìýeach. The Emergency Grant program has specified funding. Students were awarded grants as long as funds were available. All funding has been disbursed.

Will the HEERFÌýEmergency GrantÌýaffect my financial aid eligibility?
No, the HEERFÌýEmergency Grant does not affect any financial aid. It is a one-time grant that does not need to be repaid.Ìý

Are recipients required to report these funds as gross income for taxes?Ìý
No, this grant should not be included as part of your gross income for tax reporting purposes. This is because emergency financial aid grants under the CARES Act qualify as disaster relief payments under section 139 of the Internal Revenue Code.Ìý
